Another technique you can try (if your snake is not completely intolerant of having its head held) is to very gently press under the space between the lower jaws behind the chin with your thumb. Start towards the back and gently rotate your thumb forward towards the tip of the nose. If bubbles or discharge come out of the nose/mouth/heat pits, you have an RI or possibly infectious stomatitis (mouth rot). Good luck!
