I used maple hardwood plywood for my build. It took one and a half sheets for mine but i made it pretty big. I paid $50 a sheet at Lowes. You can find oak for cheaper some places. Here is a link to my thread:

Love your post and build, I was actually looking at maple hardwood but wasn't to sure if I can use it. So I will be going out today to look for the materials.
