If your snake has started the shed process and it's flaky and coming off in patches I suggest you do nothing physically to the snake. Boost your humidity and keep it right. To help with this get moss and put it the hides. Keep it moist until the snake sheds. After you get a complete shed you can allow it to dry out before making it damp again. Then when you see the first signs of shed make it damp again and keep it that way until you get a shed.

Accurite thermometer/humidity combo gauge can be had on Amazon and at Walmart for about $12. It has a wired probe for the hotspot and then the unit will read the ambient temp and humidity.

could i get a link to this probe combo?, thanks

I read somewhere on this board about using a wet q-tip and gently rubbing the afflicted area. I had a snake come in that immediately had a bad shed the next day and had a small patch remaining on the top of her head. This technique worked well for me but i had to be patient. She was not real thrilled with having her head rubbed.

There are many variables to it and I for one try to give the easy and safe advice so that nothing I say brings another's animal into a harmful place. Its just a little stuck shed. Pretty low on the danger scale and the humidity is what needs to be concentrated on.

If the user asks a question and does not like my suggestion they are certainly able to use the search option and find the same question answered a thousand times before. They can then pick the answer or resolution they see fit. However if they start a thread I will give the best advice I see to fit that situation.

When dealing with stuck shed I have no concern with the flaky shed and how many pieces a keeper may have to pick up as it comes off. My concern is finding a solution to the problem, which is humidity. I also don't consider it a hard task to pick up pieces of shed.
Well I'm working full time , with a busy family life , an active dog , 5 tanks of fish / Axolotls PLUS 21 snakes , each housed in lavishly furnished vivariums so I certainly wouldn't want to be collecting endless pieces of dead skin out each day for the next week or so ......

I say soak and towel for this instance and this instance alone , then get the humidity issue sorted well in advance of the next shed cycle ....

Yes, and you are an experienced keeper that has their husbandry figured out. A person with 21 snakes should not have to soak each snake each time they shed. If they did they would have no business owning them.

The OP or any new snake owner has to learn and gain the experience you already have, you didn't start at 21 with no issues. It took you time, money, and experience to get there. A single snake owner is not going to have the same struggle picking up a bit of shed skin from their snake. I think you are over thinking this and applying it to your collection, which I admit would be a nightmare for all 21 to be having the issue of stuck shed.

In the end I will recommend what I feel comfortable with and what I feel is best for the owner and animal in each particular situation.

I just got a bit defensive after your previous dig ... All my suggestions / advice was aimed at the guy with the stuck shed obviously and nothing to do with my little beauties

May as well knock this in the head as we're simply going around in circles .

In the interest of better communication where did you feel I got a "dig" on you? That was not my intentions. I only tried to explain what you asked.
