    Naga doesn't like her enclosure

I recently got a baby ball python (about 2-2.5ft) and she spends the majority of her awake time trying to escape her tank. Its my first time keeping one so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and I haven't had her for very long so I still have some adjusting to do. She really just doesn't like being in there so far as I can tell. She spends a lot of time in her hides which I had expected, but she's constantly trying to get out, especially since she found the latch that opens up the screen top. She's absolutely fine once she gets out, which is the really odd part for me. She'll spend some time exploring then after a few minutes settle down beneath my leg or in my boyfriend's lap (until we start cramping and have to move). She seems a lot calmer and more content outside of her enclosure and acts much more like a ball python.

I've never heard of bps doing that so I'm certain I must be doing something wrong, I'm just not entirely sure what exactly it is since I've heard Bps can be rather picky. I've had a hard time regulating her tank temp the first couple nights because we had a cold front come through and due to some initial issues we had moving her in her tank was close to a window so at night the temp on the cool side would drop to around 60 and she spent all her time in her warm hide. But since then we've gotten the cool side up to about 75-80f and her warm side stays at about 90-95. I haven't gotten a thermostat to regulate her uth yet, but we always keep her temps in that range. She has two hides and a large water dish, and I use reptibark substrate.

Are her temperatures wrong, or does she need more hides?

I've think you answered your own question to be honest. The number one important piece of equipment to get is an accurate thermostat. This will help regulate your uth and stop it from getting too hot and burning your snake (which may or not be happening as you can't be there 24/7 to check on your snake) or worse malfunctioning and causing a fire! Don't delay, get one today

What is the surface temperature of the glass above the UTH?
How and where are you getting your temperatures from?

I have two thermometers with the probes placed on either side of the tank towards the bottom. I've been fretting about it since we got her because we couldn't afford the thermostats, but between both of our work schedules she's monitored 24/7 and we check on her hourly. The surface temp above the Uth is 95. I took the liberty of rearranging her tank though and getting a slightly larger hide on the cool side because she barely fit into the one we had in there and she seems to have settled down. She's calmed down quite a bit, but still spent a good two or three minutes looking for a way out of her tank after she woke up before crawling into her other hide.

A bare minimum would get the job done.
Also a tight fitting hide is a good thing.

Hi, If you or your boyfriend have any experience with wiring you can try this out:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/281294885235...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I am currently using this on my rack system and am planning to get two more as backup. It is an on off Thermostat but i have not had any big fluctuations at all. It kicks on 1 degree below the target temp and gets back up to temp quickly. I am actually ordering two more for backup. At $13.99 its a steal.
