Ball pythons like tight cramped spaces. Large o[en areas tend to stress them out and cause more harm than good. If you decide to keep this large enclosure, which from reading your first post you're using it as a stand alone terrarium, I would suggest adding a lot of clutter to reduce the excess open space.

A rheostat (dimmer) is a way to regulate the heat source, a thermostat is so much easier.

Actually a regulated heat souce is the must. How you regulate it is up to what works for you.
