    The probe for the thermostat is not technically a thermometer probe - it's really only a reporting mechanism placed on the outside of your enclosure for your thermostat to use. The thermometer probe SHOULD be on the inside of the enclosure at the hot spot to read the hottest temperature the animal has access to.
