Install "Redneck AC" for the room during the hottest part of the day: small fan + several plastic bottles of water that have been frozen. Point the fan at the water bottles and blow the cool air across the room. We did this a few years ago during a summer power outage where our daytime highs topped 100*F. We had a generator but it wasn't power the HVAC, just the refrigerator/freezers, a few fans, the cell phone chargers, and some lights.

To soak or not to soak is a bit of a side issue and a fairly minor one most of the time.

As for the additives...there's no need for them at all. "Repti-safe" is completely unnecessary for either drinking or soaking. So your snakes should be absolutely fine.

Last time I checked there were also mites, parasites, predators, natural disasters, and all sorts of other awesome things in the wild. Maybe I should be attempting to recreate these things in my snake room too! One of my biggest pet peeves is using "the wild" as primary justification for doing or not doing things like this in our private collections - especially when it comes to innane decisions about whether or not to use a simple product.

Also, last time I checked, ReptiSafe is made by ZooMed, not a big box store. You can find the stuff everywhere. While it may not be necessary in this instance, there is certainly a place for it in the hobby (which isn't to fleece one over on us, I assure you).

I know the big box stores dont make the product...but they sure try to sell the crap out of it along with shed ease.....I have been told so many time the only way to get full sheds was to use shed ease if thats the case I must be magical because I get good sheds all the time...oh wait its because my husbandry is right....lol... im not trying to argue with you eric you are a very valued member on here my main point is most pet stores will try and sell stuff that is not necessary at all in order to get more out of a sale.. especially to newer herpers

Without any research, it sounds as if the product your describing simply removes the chlorine from the water. I added a similar product when I had fish and frogs.

You don't need that stuff for your snakes though, any safe to drink manicupal water will be fine.
