This used to drive me insane years ago, until I spoke with some veteran boa breeders and they observed the same behavior.

I even got to the point where I had friends come over and take temp measurements with their equipment to make sure that my temp guns weren't off.
Josh, I agree for the most part, but the cage is not wide enough IMO to have that ambient temp at 77 for a BCC. Now if we were talking 8,' 6' or even 4' wide I'd say no worries as there would be some "in between" areas. I provide a night drop that low, but this situation is with a Hydrofarm stat, and the warm side is barley adequate with lower 80's on the hot side I think overall temps are low for a young BCC.

The Herpstat could regulate things much better. But for now, the choice between 77 and low 80 degrees seems narrow to me.

I guess the snake will be the judge, however once you go down the regure road with a BCC, it gets dicey.

Re: Boaphile plastics 222d enclosure questions

I just ordered a floor heat Matt From Jeff at Boaphile. He recommended that I use both heat sources to heat the enclosure. I do have an extra Hydrofarm thermastat that I plan on using for the floor heat. Would any of you recommend a different way of controlling the floor heat mat?

Gio, I keep forgetting that we are talking about a BCC here not a BCI. You are right, they do have more specific requirements than a typical common boa.

Oops, never mind. I do plan on buying a herpstat. I plan on getting the herpstat 4 so I can use it with the floor mat and RHP for my Boa and to control the RHP for my Python. I also like all the options it comes with. Would you recommend this method?

Schweet! Thank you guys for all the help. My girl has been getting feisty lately and am hoping the stable husbandry will calm her down!
