Question Has anyone delt with Underground Reptiles site?

Ive been doing the research for BPs, always wanted a snake since i was little, but mom never let me. Now that im on my own, and stable, ive been looking into it more. (plus at i work at a vets clinic, and the petstore brought one in to be looked at, so its been staying by us for a few days. So getting to hold him made me want to get my own finally.. lol)

anyways.... doing the research, i really want a blue eyed leucistic BP. So my questions, i found that i could get one online from UGR... has anyone dealt with them? Safe site? healthy animals?

two, their price for the Blue eyed lucy (same thing as what i want? Looks like it... ) is that a good price or a rip off? Seeing as they look to be a big online petstore i dont want to overpay them when i can support a breeder....

I've never bought from them, but as far as the price, I would say that's a pretty good deal. You won't find much better unless you find something on Craigslist and that will take patience (I'm lucky - it's how I got my BEL!). I went to the site and looked the snake you are talking about and that is definitely what you are looking for if you want a BEL.

I decided never to deal with them after reading their reviews on Fauna.

Also a fairly easy way to check any vendor is to Google their name along with words like "snake mites", "bad review", or "scam".

Low price and good deals are not everything when buying an animals, quality and customer service are as important, read those feedbacks on the BOI before making a decision.

Re: Has anyone delt with Underground Reptiles site?

I had a experience with Underground reptiles about 1.5 years ago and found them to be very accomodating. It was a business deal where I was selling them a clutch of albino checkered garter snakes. Before I shipped the animals, Rian offered to pay the shipping charge and faxed over one of his shipping labels to defray the cost. It was a total of 15 animals shipped , of which 5 died enroute to them in Florida. The deaths were totally my fault. They sent me pictured proof of the dead garters ( very detailed photos). Which I was satisfied with. And we came up with a plan for future shipping to avoid another incident as such. They were very attentive and friendly. I might add this transaction occurred as they were moving the whole operation into a different , larger facility. So, yeah. If you are buying a animal from them yes they do stand by their terms of agreement or service. However if you are dissatisfied with the animal let them know right away! Make sure you are home to receive the animal and check the animal over very carefully. Actually , ask a lot of questions of them so you get a feel of how they operate. I think they take pride in their operation and take care of their animals very well. GOOD LUCK. As always and with any sale, buyer beware! Remember, everyones bad experience doesn't mean your experience will be bad.

So glad I ran across this thread. Saw UGR with a few snakes up on kingsnake I was considering purchasing, but after some of the horror stories on BOI, forget it!

I have been to Underground's store. They have a small retail store, and a larger warehouse a few blocks away. It's a larger operation than I originally expected. Professional. I had good customer service from the store and the warehouse. However, if you are looking at a photo on their website, I suspect that it is likely a stock photo. You can try asking them for a pic of the actual snake. My impression from my visit there, is that they are very accommodating if you actually get a hold of someone on the phone. Keep in mind that there are quite a few people working there, so you may reach a different receptionist or phone operator with each phone call.

Haven't done an online purchase with them, but have been to their retail store, and I had no issues with anything I got from them. I'll admit I haven't read the BOI threads on them, but I don't always put a ton of stock in those when a very large business is involved. After all, how many thousand orders have they had verses the few who took the time to write up a complaint. But they are mostly a reseller, so that entails a few possible issues like an occasional less than healthy animal they might not catch. And going direct to a breeder will usually aviod things like mites and RIs.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.

Not to slam them, haven't dealt with them myself. Have read some reviews, however!

With all the good breeders around who can ship direct, I would hesitate to buy from someone whose reputation is more of a flipper (maybe they bred this animal - I don't know). Just my opinion. If anyone is advertising animals by shouting about how cheap they are, I stay away. I'm not their customer. I want quality. I am willing to pay someone for the skill, experience, and care required to produce quality.

Agree. Extra stress on the animals, and bio-security risks are just facts in that sort of business.
