Good info for us NOOBS!

[QUOTE=PitOnTheProwl;2376018]Have you actually seen what an unregulated heat source can do?
Wish I would have taken photos from when I got her. All the puss and stuff oozing out of the cooked skin.

Re: Ermergerd!
Wow your system blow!!!!!! you are risking the lives of all 5 of your snakes and your house with unregulated heat pads.....they go well over 120 degrees and you evidently are not measuring your temos right if you say they are 90 with a unregulated heat pad....what you are doing is not safe at all... unplug those until they are regulated some how...I dont care if you dont want to listen but dont make your snakes suffer your laziness and disregard what nore experienced people tell you l...that is just foolish

A room mate plugging and unplugging uth mats is not a system. That is a tragedy waiting to happen.
Im not rich but I have two Herpstat 1s, a 2, and a 4. I bought some used which saved me some money but overall I have a good little chunk of money invested in them. I think the money was wisely spend to insure the safety of my collection.
Spend the money and do it right the first time. A Herpstat will last a very long time and you will get good use from it.
Buying direct can also be done and they ship very quickly.

While you don't need five, you do need to ensure that if you run all of your matts off of one t-stat that every matt is exactly the same manufacturer and size/wattage.
Also now that you're up to five ball pythons you may want to look into a rack for them. It will be cheaper to run, requires less space, it's easier to clean, and you can sell the tanks to more than cover the cost.

Re: Ermergerd!
Check ebay and fauna classifieds. I've gotten almost all of my herpstats from ebay for pretty cheap. I've only had to buy one from spyder robotics. Please get one asap. A thermostat is the most important thing you will ever invest in in this hobby. As pit on the prowl showed keeping them unregulated is a very dangerous and unwise choice. Please make the right decision as soon as possible.

like i said, they are monitored all day. until my roommate left that is. not worried about your so-called insults either. you can answer the question or not. nothing else you said matters.

i actually am looking into racks. i moved a few to tubs to get them to eat and they all seemed to prefer them.
