BCI breeders with good reps and pics?

    Move at will...

I've been thinking about getting a BCI for a few years now, partially because I want one and partially to get rid of my excess rat population when they grow too big for my ball pythons and then I'm stuck because my ball pythons are on hunger strike. (Rats cost more than upkeeping snakes on food bills...)

I'm looking for a female with sable coloring and if it's possible, some blushing, but I'm not sure what regionality would be best for the kind of thing I'm looking for or boa breeders. I'd prefer to have a boa that doesn't get too big, which is why I'm looking at BCIs, but still can take a full grown rat when fully grown. (So doesn't demand rabbits eventually or whatever).

Are there reputable BCI breeders who offer pictures of their animals? I don't need anything beyond a normal... I think.

Ideas on breeders and regionalities for these needs?

Giving us your location would give us a good idea of who to recommend. I'm in Canada so I have no clue about US laws or breeders. I know quite a few here in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

But I did want to ask, why do you not just euthanize the rats at a certain age and freeze them? If your snakes do not eat F/T, you could sell them.

    Trying to sell the rats, but it gets expensive up keeping them and I don't have the equipment to euthanize them. But I see this as more of an excuse to get a BCI, rather than a way to get rid of the large rats... ^^;;

US, CA... I don't mind buying online. I kinda prefer a breeder that calls before shipping to check on dates, etc, rather than ships blind. But then I kind of expect all breeders to be like that.

A lot of breeders won't ship just one snake across country borders because of the cost for paper work. If you are in the U.S. BHB reptiles has a good selection. But being in Canada that is really all I know of. Here there is Big Ds exotic. He has a Facebook page and you will have to message him from there. There is also JJ reptiles. Morph source and niagra reptiles. There is quite a bunch to choose from, even more in the U.S. as far as I know.

    LEGACY REPTILES.

But 1 BCI isn't going to solve a thing with your large rat problems. A BC, no matter the subspecies, as an adult will eat 1 large rat every 3-4 weeks if being fed properly. Most keepers recommend feeding frozen/thawed so you will still have to dispatch the rats on your own.

If your BC is big enough as an adult, 1 rabbit will take the place of the rats, leaving you with large rats still.

I assume you are planning on a neonate or sub-adult? That will take even longer for the snake to be of proper size for large rats.

Most of the time Ball python refuses one week, so by the next week it's too big for my ball pythons... I'm thinking of investing in a better system to get rid of the excess rats though.

Any suggestions on locality for the kind of thing I want so it doesn't take rabbits?

If you buy a male and raise it conservatively almost any BCI will do.

I have a male, Barranquilla, Colombia boa constrictor that is approaching 6 feet long. He will be eating 1 pound rabbits or large quail, or large rats.

I don't need to feed any larger than that. But I'm raising him to be a larger male. As in,,,, he is not a breeder, just a shoulder pet.

I bought this beautiful, Gus Rentfro produced boa from Legacy Reptiles in 2013.

All u need to euthanize. Rats is a gallon zip lock bag a 1gallon clearish plastic Container. I use a big ice cream tub. Some type of hose a Turkey. Bastter baking soda and vinager. Cheap and easy co2 chamber. There are videos on YouTube of many types. I can take step by step pics of the one I use when I get released from the hospital
