I agree with this. I would have my ac on 72 and the heater would still be running in the room

True in some cases but every snake room is different.

For example my snake room is a spare room above the garage right under the roof, since it is the snake room, this room has been cut off from the AC system.

In the warm months May through October the room naturally reaches 86/87 during the day (no heater needed and during those month I do not provide a hot spot either), the rest of the house is set on 74/75

During the winter the room is heated at 75 with a oil filled heater and a hot spot is provided, rest of the house is at 68.

So the bottom line it really depends on the snake room.

Being that she just said that she does exactly this for half of the year, I'm guessing she's a fan.

See my post above, I have been doing this for the past 5 years since moving to our new house and in MY situation it works very well. Prior to that the snake room in the old house was in the basement and the room was heated yea round an a hot spot was provided year round as well.

Different setup allows for a different way to keep my animals.

Again depends on the room, if it makes sense energy wise, on the keeper's level of experience and most importantly on whether or not it works with your animals.

Do I recommend it to everyone? Nope, but I have no problem discussing it with people wanting to try something different.
