In my case, it's because I find myself in awe of the color patterns and the almost hypnotic grace of a snake's movement. They have a beauty that is singular in the animal kingdom.

Nice article. Personally, I keep them because I enjoy them aesthetically.. Their patterns and colors, their body forms, etc. I also enjoy handling them... Quite a different experience than your typical cat / dog. The much lower maintenance aspect is great as well. I was just able to check tubs and water for my 10 snakes in about 5 minutes... Aside from tub cleaning and feeding night, that ain't bad for 10 pets lol. My cat takes up much more time every day. They do suit someone with a busy lifestyle much better than a conventional pet.
    Currently keeping:
    1.0 BCA 1.0 BCI
    1.0 CA BCI 1.1 BCLs
    0.1 BRB 1.2 KSBs
    1.0 Carpet 0.5 BPs
    0.2 cresteds 1.2 gargs
    1.0 Leachie 0.0.1 BTS

    Re: "WHY a snake??"

I have to admit, I love reptiles because they're so misunderstood. I've met multiple people who ask me why I have a snake because they're "disgusting" and "evil" and "in the Bible, a snake told eve to eat the forbidden fruit"... I mostly give them a blank stare at the latter. I'm covered in tattoos and piercings, one of my tattoos is a pentacle (I'm wiccan). You really think I care what a thousand year old book says? But without getting into a religious debate I enjoy learning things about them I never knew. They're so misunderstood. They have feelings just like every other animal, they just can't make noise to tell you what their feelings are (except threatened. You'll know).

One of the comments I get often is "snakes don't blink!" Well obviously they don't, would you blink if your eye was a scale?
