Quickly learning ball pythons are goofy

Week ago or so I posted on a stump hide I had that I was worried about my snake getting caught in the back hole. He really liked this hide and I thought it was cool looking so didn't want to pitch it so I cut the hole through to the bottom and filed everything smooth so no sharp edges. Posted before and after pictures in my post. Well since doing this he has took up residence in his cool side hide and will not go in this one now. He's perched on top of it a couple times but hasn't stayed in it since.

I thought maybe my UTH under it may have been a tad warm, With my V-100 thermostat it was going between 91-94 so I bumped it down a degree and now it's going between 88-92 but didn't seem to make a difference. The cool hide is smaller and he barely fits in it which maybe it too but man about the time you think you got these guys all figured out they pull some goofy crap on you.
He's really due to shed but I haven't noticed any signs of him actually going into shed yet.
