    jcmb223 you should keep an eye on the ambient air temps. Sadly you cannot measure them with a IT gun as they measure surface temps only.

    Yeah, I usually have an analog thermometer on each side as well.

    They come in a lot of flavours. Some are more than complete junk, and others are fantastic. I would suspect any that have a paper face card, the paper swells and binds the needle from moving. You can use the IR gun to ball park it but often it needs a second better probe to insure reasonable accuracy.
