Re: Looking to get a BP; Have a few questions.
I also used two separate hides for years with no negative results. But to me it's a potential stresser, and having identical hides makes it one less thing to worry about.

True. Maybe when she moves to a 40g I'll get identical ones. I've only had her since October and I have never heard anyone mention identical hides vs stress, but it is an interesting point. Maybe I'll get an identical one and see if she acts any different towards it.

Sounds good. Even if she doesn't behave any differently, you'll know 100% that if she's in a particular hide, it's because that's where she wants to be.

So if on the warm side you had a nice big hide that had plenty of room, then on the cool side you had a real nice tight fitting hide, you don't think your BP would choose the most secure hide over the warm hide? He most probably would.
You see a lot of people saying that there snake is constantly on the cool side this is usually due to temps being high but sometimes it's because people use log hides or hides that are too big etc.. for the warm side so that they can see they're BP, if you can see your BP is he going to be safe while hiding? No.
In the end the decision is yours, personally I want my BP feeling as safe as possible when he thermo regulates.
Well this is just my opinion anyway

That's exactly what I have right now, and the snake sleeps all day in the big warm hide, then comes out of it at night.

What if you have 2 identical hides and he doesn't like either one of them? That would be even more stressful.
For all I know you could have a less safe feeling hide on the cool side, so the BP has no choice but to use the warm hide even if its bigger it could feel more secure than the cool side, and again this is stopping thermo regulation.

Anyway @TheGolem Your BP may feel safe in the way you have it set up, but you are not the OP, the OP is potentially getting a new BP, is his BP going to feel safe? coming from one place to another? No, so I was offering the advice to provide to hides that are identical to help the BP ease in and feel more safe in the new environment.
