    Respiratory Infection Timeline

ok so I purchased a snake knowing he had a resp infection. took him to the vet. was put on 6ML(600mg) every 3 days. snake is 650g. I was told by the vet to do the innjections at home and have been. he is on his 3rd injection now.

when should I see signs of him getting better?

hes still bubbling at the mouth, doing the yawns and gurgling. the gurgling is not as bad as it was. but its been a week now. I assumed I would see a considerable difference.

this is my first sick snake. please advise with a timeline of what to look for , for it getting worse etc.

i tried searching but didnt see anything for the time of treatment. jsut the pre treatment symptoms.

I am gonna work on getting a fogger and using f10 this weekend as a previous poster had suggested.

    thanks

good luck getting ahold of the F10. Last I checked it was nowhere to be found.

If you're already using abx from your vet, I would suggest that you follow the course of treatment before you try other things. Typically they will have you treat for about a month. Results will vary between abx. Talk with your vet about expected outcome timelines. It should be as simple as a quick phone call.

    Hi,

Did the vet do a culture to determine sensitivity to various drugs?

No. I'm not particular keen on this vet. But i needed to get him in asap and they did next day appts. Online reviews were mixed. Theyre exotic animal but i think more mammal.

She examined him. But no culture or anything. Just CEFTAZADIME 200mg/ml. 6 ml. So 1200mg. Every 3 days for a month.

Ceftazadime (Fortaz) is one of the better abx for RI's, but it doesn't work on all of them. Still, if it's been a week and you're seeing improvement then that's a good sign. IIRC when mine had RI's the vet prescribed Baytril + Fortaz administered every three days for a month, and while I saw some improvement the first week like you did, it did take a good bit of time before I noticed a huge improvement.

I'm puzzled by this statement. Is this not what you are looking for?

I am not sure about this supplier. The last time I looked, all of the US suppliers have been sold out for months. (The bean farm used to sell it, so did BHB reptiles.) Amazon says its getting this from a ".co" website. Google says that's Columbia. I know people were importing it from England for a while.

Maybe this amazon link will work. Worth a shot.
