Sorry to get off topic a bit, but most of the rest of the world (not just the U.K.) knows the Natal multimammate mouse as Multies, they were also refered to that here in the US not so very long ago. I believe the name ASF short for African Soft-furred was mainly an invention by the American pet industry to make them sound cuter, fluffier and therefore more marketable.

I'd agree with all of the above on reflection .

In my defence I had no idea that this was a USA forum I just assumed it was kinda multicultural .. As you said over here on the UK we call them Royals rarely Balls which is a kind of nickname .

I certainty wasn't aiming for condescending though so again you are correct .

As I said , I'll probably just lurk in the background
Ah, thank you for saying so! My way with words is no accident though- they are my addiction, my love. I romance them daily and they woo me right back

I wouldn't say this forum is 100% US dedicated, it's the internet after all and I have seen other UK residents around, but regionally, if you know a snake by a certain name, you go looking for info on that snake and Google under those search terms, it's going to give you back matching web results. So, the US person, looking up "ball" pythons finds hits for "ball"-pythons.net and then goes onto the forum to talk and ask questions about their US born and bred snake to other US based keepers talking about "ball" pythons. Law of averages, really.

Which is ironic, considering they're still mostly used as feeders as far as I can tell, and further more and more states seem to be enacting strict regulations regarding breeding selling and keeping them live. Thanks California!
