Pastel X Bumble Bee lock on second time pairing

Paired my Pastel and Bumble Bee two weeks ago and after 4 days no lock, or at least I didnt catch them. So I separated them, after a feeding and three days rest I was going to pair them back up but the BB went into shed so I postponed. Put them in together again latnight and just went to check on them and they were locked!! This is my first ever lock so I'm pretty excited, also managed to educate myself in the process lol. .... I left the water bowl in the tub with them, the tub was fogged up so I couldnt see in it to check on them without opening it up ..... so when I did they were locked YAY! Right?? Except they started moving around so as gently as i could I closed the rack back up. Hopefully I didnt disturb them enough that they stopped . Note to self ... from now on the water bowl will be removed when I do pairings

No, leave the water bowl in when you pair. The tub being fogged up and her being freshly shed is probably why you saw a lock.

I've never had a male pull out when I peeked in on them. I mean, don't go poking or grabbing them, but gently sliding out the tub for a pic is fine.

Mike thank you for the advise and input!! Its nice when a senior member of the site steps up and adds even the smallest of details. I am nothing but all ears and attention when it comes to that because I know that many many people have put in years of effort and trial and error to get where we are today with the ball python, I am newer to the hobby (a little over a year) but strive to learn as much as I can as fast as I can.

And Jayare remember just because you have not seen a lock does not mean it has not happened. But definitely keep it up!!

P.S. It will look something like this

I take out the hides but leave in the water bowls. Mist down the females tub before you put them together and put them together when it's supposed to rain that nite or the next day. When she's freshly shed, that's good too. I've never had a male in shed lock, but some do. I've never seen a lock when a females in shed, but some do. Because of that, I personally just don't bother pairing when they're in shed, but it's your call. One lock a month is all you need. Once I get one lock between a male and a female, that male won't see that female again for 3-4 weeks. In the mean time he gets to pene other ladies. More pairing to see more locks than once a month is overkill imo, but others may disagree. If you ever have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm far from an expert but I don't mind sharing what has and hasn't worked for me.

Re: Pastel X Bumble Bee lock on second time pairing

I personally like to take the water bowl out when I pair and have had decent success doing so. Sometimes I fel like the female might try n hide behind the water bowl so the male can't get to her. But I do mist down the tux before I pair like it rained the night before seems like I have better luck when misting the tubs like that
