Negative sensationalism like this spreads like cancer. I know Jamie's intentions may have been good, but this sort of stuff can immediately be twisted (because that's the media's specialty!) into anything but beneficial. Despite the fact this video is two or three years old, it only now surfaces as viral. And in a bad light as articles depict at that.

Lol, I knew it was Guarino. I don't think it's good PR and I probably would not let my 14 month old child "play" with a adult Burm. I also do not like to anthropomorphize snakes.

I have to disagree with the whole "snakes can be loving animals" They are very simple and instinctual animals. While I have seen bigger snakes that seem to have the ability to think and process some basic things, I think love or anything like it is outside of their capability.

My thoughts are pretty much, the kid is obviously in minimal danger, but is there potential for a freak accident... yes. If we think that way then you probably shouldn't let your dog around a child either, no matter what breed or size it is, which is perfectly acceptable to the general public. The video was done in a way that I don't think I could ask to be in a better way. We really should expect bad PR in the media from it though. At the same time if the video changes a few peoples minds and the mass media lead them to the video, maybe it's not so bad over all.

As more recent studies are showing, I wouldn't rule anything such as problem solving or some individual recognition in snakes to be completely impossible just yet. We're just barely tapping the surface of the reptile mind, and they're showing that they are deep and more cognitive thinkers than we think. They're not the instinctual, biological robots they were thought to be some many years ago.
But that's besides the point.

The publicity this is receiving is awful.
