Attaching Herpstat probe to RHP

How do you guys attach your herpstat probes to ur heat panels, I swear i read something on here about just glueing it to the center of the lens, or put on the bottom of enclosure(i really dont want on bottom of cage for cleaning reasons), also i thought i saw a post on here where they used a cable tie on the edge of the RHP and it was just on the edge of it, anyways could someone take some pics or explain how you did it? working on setting up my T-8 right now.

I have never understood the point of mounting the t Stat prob to the panel. It's not a heat mat.

You want to mount the tstat probe as close to the heat source as possible to be able to regulate it properly, whether it's a heat panel or a heat mat.

Yea This is the way I was thinking about doing it considering I have cable straps already from hanging my led light wires and such. Ik in the directions from herpstat they said not to have probe close to the 120 power cable and stuff how far away do you guys keep the wires apart?

You want to mount the tstat probe as close to the heat source as possible to be able to regulate it properly, whether it's a heat panel or a heat mat.

not necessarily true. Two completely different heat sources. Heat mats , YES mount the prob directly to the mat on the outside of the cage. RHP, NO. Mount the t Stat prob to the wall about 4" from the floor directly under the rhp. Set your desired temp and check with heat gun. Adjust set temp + / - to achieve correct temp. Rhp are mounted to the ceiling. Your snake CAN NOT lay on them long enough to get burned. ( providing your enclosure is an inside height of 2 feet tall.) If you mount the probe to the panel and set your temp to let's say 130 deg. By the time you take a reading 2 feet down you will barely notice a change. Rhp are designed to run in the 170 - 190 deg range. Sounds very hot but I promise you can lay a flat hand on it for at least 15-20 seconds without a burn. If you have any questions talk to Bob at products. The man knows his stuff.

opps my bad. Thought you were talking about mounting to the panel. I also forgot to add it really depends on the type of snake you are wanting to have as well. Snakes that have perches directly under the rhp would benefit from panel mounted probe. My example is for a terrestrial snake...ball python/ boa etc.

Its not mounted to the panel, its mounted to the rim. The tstat probe does not and should not touch the panel. It may look as if it does in the pic but it does not.

I do not like mounting it down the wall as it can be pushed and or covered by or with the things in my cage. Where I have it mounted it can not be moved or covered by anything.

If you are using a temp gun to set the temp no matter what temp you want the ground or a perch my mounting method will work just fine.

I hang my probe about 3 inches to the side of the RHP about 2 inches from the aspen, then set the Herpstat to about 5 degrees lower than what I want the hot spot to be. For my cage its set to 87 and gives me a hotspot under the RHP of around 92. I use a temp gun to fine tune it and the reason I hang it 2 inches from the floor is so when my red tail boa goes and curls up there, I wont get a false reading with her smothering it.

And like Norwegn113 said, my set up is for a terrestrial snake. If its for something like a GTP or GTB, then you want to mount the probe to the panel or hang it right next to the panel about 1 inch down. Basically, you want to set the probe at the height the snake is going to be. I also have a flat rock right under my RHP to also radiate heat from as RHPs heat the air primarily and anything directly under them. They don't function like a UTH.
