    Re: Dumerils boa???

I want one as well but I do not have one. I have held a couple but none that were full size. Everything I have read or videos that I have watched say that they are similar in temperament and can be shy. The last one I held is a female at the local pet store and she is pretty calm and seemed curious. She even had a nice pink hue to her which was cool. I think husbandry is close but you would need to find a good care sheet to get correct info on that. I do know they like to bury in the substrate and that they can be picky eaters sometimes. Also they grow slow if I remember correctly and it takes some time for them to get to full size which can be around 8 feet and like 20 pounds I think.

I follow a smaller Facebook group about them that so far the members all seem to be knowledgeable.

Maybe one day the wife will give me blessing to get one. Here is a pic of the last one I held. The store wanted $300 for her but I was told in the fs group that average price is $150-200 for one.

I've had them in the past. They are extremely calm snakes that usually eat very well, they are great pets. They get around the size of a Colombian Boa but never trend smaller, bigger if anything from my experience

Quality is a big factor there are breeders or lines that trend high red, pink or orange. If you buy just the first one you see or go cheap, you might end up with a brown and grey Dum.

What is interesting about them is they are an extremely rare snake in the wild and pretty endangered but in the U.S. people act ho hum about them sometimes.

For enclosures any boa enclosure will do and a hot spot around 86.

Their bite is no worse than a ball pythons.
I believe ALL non-venomous snakes' saliva is an anticoagulant. It sounds bad but it's a good thing! It means if you get bit, it thins the blood slightly so you bleed out any infection there was. Heck, even us as humans have saliva that acts as an anticoagulant lol

Brian from BHB has been said to have been bitten hundreds of thousand of times and no bite has ever got infected.

I got bit by my dumerils once in a feeding mishap and I promise you it's nothing to worry about
