Thank artgecko he is not my first snake, he has a different personality than my Ball's . I waited for a year before I bought one and In that year I studied and read and read about them but there is nothing like hands on experience. I am sure that over time he will become my Friend. I have a snake hook on the way to assist me on getting out of his tank. Thanks for the advice. ...

I have four Bloods, 3 of which I raised from young. When they are young they will strike and can be vocal and pissy with little reason. They are much more pig headed than a ball and let their opinion be I known.

You should have let it be for a week before starting to handle it. It needs time to get used to and feel comfortable in its new home. Then once you start handling you need to make steady motions and let it know you are not there to harm but a little strike is not going to make you leave. My young ones tagged me often but a few months in that was over except for shed times when they can be pretty ornery. I never used a hook and wanted them to get used to being touched by hand. Your snake will stay smaller than my Bloods but they are so heavy bodied and strong I rather have two good hands on them. Their power is no joke and make a Ball look like a wimp.

It is very common for stp to be vocal their entire life. All of mine hiss, huff, and puff whenever they are disturbed. This is normal and will not change. Working with them will get them used to you and you to them. Take it slow and don't push to hard so you dont stress it out. Make the handling short in the beginning(5-10mins).

Thanks for your input , He refused his Black hide so I removed it and the Favorite Plant and put in a Rock Cave Style and he went right in it Snake hook is on the way also some long feeding tongs. I wad amazed by his power when I feed him.

Now he as moved out of the rock cave and right back to were he was behind the Hide but the plant is not in his tank anymore. I guess he is trying to tell me he likes the corner.

You cant correct the spelling and then refer to it as a Blood. Its a Short Tail, not a Blood.

OP, If it likes the plant leave it in. Also these guys like to burrow so having the cool side covered with a thick layer of substrate will work as a perfect hide for it.

Ahh. I had to go research this because I've been out of the herp world for a while, and specifically haven't read about Bloods or Short Tail pythons in a while.

Here's the confusion: Back in the day they were all considered sub-species, and people used "Blood" as the common name for Red Bloods (or just Bloods), Black Bloods (Sumatran), and Borneos. (Scientific names were Python Curtus Brongersmai, P.C.Curtus, and P.C.Breitensteini respectively). Hence I was referring to them generically as a "Blood" as the people in my circles called all Python.Curtus.X snakes "Bloods."

But... since then (it appears around 2000/2001 or so), taxonomists established that Bloods, Sumatrans, and Borneos are separate species and they were elevated as such, and the "curtus" was dropped (now being just P. Brongersmai, P. Curtus, and P. Breitensteini). Therefore I'll refer to them more accurately from now on and discourage others from calling a "borneo" a "blood python" as well.
