How to spot markers on a Poss Het Pied

Hey guys, I just purchased a 66% female Poss Het Pied with "markers". I already own a 90% white male Pied, but have no clue how to look for these so called markers on a Het Pied.

Where would I begin to look? And do markers increase the chance of her actually being Het for Pied?

    Thanks!

Re: How to spot markers on a Poss Het Pied

I am by no means an expert on pieds, but from what I understand the two most prevalent markers would be a ringer (looks like the snake has a white ring coming up from the belly, sometimes going all around the snake) and belly pattern (from my understanding, two black lines on either side of the belly around the cloaca area/tail). As for if these markers are a good way to determine wether or not the animal is het for pied, I understand that a ringer is usually a very good sign. Not sure about the belly markings. I would also like to hear from someone with more experience.

With the price of 100% Het Pied female nowadays I would not even bother with possible hets.

Now as far as markers I have successfully relied on them to hold back poss hets that I had produced years ago (keep in mind back in 06 a het pied female was $1200)

Here is what you are looking for

Those train tracks can be very variable and not always as define as those in the picture (this is actually a DH Albino Pied)

Now are markers reliable? Not always I have seen normals with similar markers as well.

Finally in most cases there is also more to it then just the belly markers, after you see a few het pied and possible het pied you will notice that the patter as well as head are a little different than just a plain normal.

I normally wouldn't have messed with a Poss Het Pied either, but she is breeder size and was $40 so I thought either way I'll either have a Het Pied or a really pretty normal.

I'm picking her up tomorrow and can examine her further, but from what I saw she had some white rings on her lower half.

But I plan to upload a picture of her belly and any abnormal markings I find to see if anyone can identify them as markers.

    Thanks for your help!

So just to offer another view point...

If there was a marker for a recessive gene then it would not be a recessive gene. 40 bucks for a breeder size female is a nice price anyway, but if someone tells me they have a 66% all I hear is blah blah train tracks blah blah. If markers were real then it woudn't be 66% it would be 100%.

I TOTALLY understand some people believe in het markers, I just want to play devils advocate.

I can definitely see what you're saying. But like you said, I really picked her up for the bargain price. Regardless if she ends up being het or not, when I breed her to my visual pied, I'll have my hets then (:
