Super Pastel Genetic Stripe

Set up a new photography strobe this afternoon using wireless triggers and shoot through umbrellas. Thought the best thing to try this out with was my Super Pastel Genetic Stripe girl who just dropped her skin and had a nice rat dinner a couple days back.

These images are straight from the camera aside from resizing and converting the negative.

Camera setup for this was Canon 6D with 24-105 F4 IS L attached - With a Trigmaster transceiver for sending flash information. Flashes used were SB-430ex ii mounted on Trigmaster receivers shot through 24" white umbrellas mounted 48" from subject that was shot on a neutral white foamboard ($3 walmart).

Really awesome setup because I can shoot from all angles of the snake and move freely without my light changing at all! So much fun.

Please do I would love to see your setup, I am going to be making a light box but if this setup looks plausible for me to do then I will, because that was one great photo before.

I bought a light kit from Amazon that I really like. This one is made up of 3 soft boxes and has a lot of light out put. I like soft boxes better than light boxes/light tents, because they aren't a limited in size, just move the stands a little, and something bigger will fit in. Also, the light kit I bought has far more bulbs than any of the light box/tent kits I've seen. I went with ccontinuous lighting in case I want to do video also. You can check out my setup in this thread (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-New-Light-Kit). What you need to think about, is whether continuous or strobe lighting (flash) would be better for you. Strobe would probably be better if you are planning on only doing photographs and not doing video. A coworker, who used to do a lot of photography, recommends strobes for photographs. That is the setup that reptileexpert used, i think. I'm hoping rreptileexpert will be willing to tell us some of the advantages of his setup and why he is using strobes and umbrellas.

My current camera set up (6D is charging so using my 1D Mark III) 24-105f4 attached as well as trigmaster light controller. Sitting next to a passport color checker. Take one photo with just the color checker then it creates color and white balance profile that instantly corrects all images following in post.


Sb-430 ex II mounted to a flash head with a 24" umbrella attached


Shoot through umbrellas from the front. Mount this set up on each side of your white board table to achieve no shadows. Or use just one to give it depth
