Re: Snake escapes from racks, anyone?

I built my rack out of melamine and put latches on the back so the tub slides in and cant come out the back and I have a pole in the front right down the middle so the tubs cant slide out forward either.

You just answered your own question! Why the hell do you have a 4000g ball in a 30q tub? The animal just pushed against the top and slid the tub out. You can always place stops in front of tubs to gaurd against this happening, but that snake needs a larger tub.

Mine got out once with locked doors.

But it doesn't do any good if I don't lock the doors!!!

I now triple check each time after closing the door.

Let's not get fired up alright? As I said before I put her in the tub just for breeding purposes when she's with the male. I was told a 30q should be fine when pairing. Obviously it's not. The tub is NOT her permanent house. She has a 50g TANK that she lives in. But like you said she must have pushed against the top and got out. I was just startled about the situation but it makes sense now.

I have never had an escape from my rack and my two sliding screen topped cages have kept their occupants inside without any double lids or bricks.
I was 9 years old when I had my corn snake. That was way before I had ball pythons. Issa, is the first ball python that has gotten out (which are all in C Serpent racks except Issa). I've had several other species that has never gotten out. I can't read minds, if I knew how the stupid corn snake got out of it's tank I would tell you. They are escape artist. And just because you never had it happened to you doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else.

All snakes are escape artist. That's why the proper caging is important.

Never had any escapees from my racks and only one of them has locking mechanisms to make it impossible
