You loose a lot of heat through the glass. If your only using a TSTAT set at 90 or so, you are probably only at 85 on the substrate where the snake is actually laying. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah that's definitely true, I'm pretty obsessed with temp gunning though, so I don't think this will be an issue, I appreciate your 2 cents though.

I have a 40 gallon tank. I use a uth, 100 watt che and a 60 watt bulb to keep it right in my home where the temp stays at 68. I do not have them hooked up to a tstat. Instead I control them by keeping them on lamp stands. Being my house is a steady temp I just raise or lower them to give the desired temps. I have done this for years. Once you get them dialed in they don't need adjusting unless you change the room temp.

My room where im keeping them is about a steady 70, i think I'm going too need a light too give me some higher ambient temps, my tank is the same size as the standard cb70 adult tubs (35 18) and is 12 inches high, my bulb is a 100 WATT infrared spot bulb, I assume that would get too hot if I left it on freely right ?
