Maternal Incubation problem!

I am sort of surprised to find that when I was checking on the eggs under my female, I found little mites crawling on the eggs! I really want to disinfect her, but I don't want to stress her out too much. What should I do? The eggs still look nice and white. Can the mites do any external damage to the eggs?

Sounds like you need to get a incubator so you can treat the female for mites.
Not sure about treating eggs.

I would think once they're separated, the mites would go away...either disperse, die off, etc. as they can't feed on eggs. It would definitely need to be treated like a quarantine situation and get them away from each other...

I wonder if you'd be able to separate them long enough to treat the female and then put them back together? But I imagine any residual treatment product would probably not be good for eggs though...

Are you sure they are actually mites? Could they be a different type of insect? I get little white buggies on my turtle eggs every time and never anything bad.

10% Permethrin mixed 1oz/gallon will kill any mite and not harm the snake. Just do not get the eggs too wet.

Remove the water bowl and spray the entire tub moderately. When dry replace the water bowl.

Repeat every 3 days x 3 and you will be done.

Ideally I would take the eggs away and treat the female alone.

Is this the same stuff you'd find at Tractor Supply or Southern States? We use it for the horses and barn areas. My only concern is that it has a petroleum base.

Same stuff. I got a few new female breeder rats and they had mites. Problem solved within a few weeks. Did not feed any rats to my collection till they were gone. Three treatments three days apart. I will follow up with one last treatment for safety measures after a month from the third treatment.

I assume (hope) that you already have an incubator on standby in case of the female not wanting to wrap her eggs or other issues. If not, get one and put the eggs inside. The female shouldn't have to suffer through 60 days of mites, and you can't treat her and also keep humidity high enough for incubation. The mites on the eggs will die before the eggs hatch.

Mites have been taken care of. I GOT BABIES!! I will post some pictures sometime this week . Female Normal x male pinstripe x male mojave.
