    I don't think there's anything to "get"....any more than we try to understand why someone who collects turtles might not be interested in collecting snakes, for instance. But we all enjoy hanging out with fellow herpers. While invertebrates are not "herps", they are very similar in that they are exotic, feared and misunderstood, easily kept as pets, come in an amazing variety of species, sizes, and colors, and are flat-out as fascinating as they are alien. All those similarities make them a perfect fit in our herping society...they only lack an internal skeleton, after all.
