    Ok, I'm not in the UK, and I don't have any personal experience with this particular heat cable, so I'm going on my decent knowledge of electrical systems and experience with some cable. The heat cable will plug into a thermostat just like any other heat source, yes you will need a recessed area for it as it will be a lot less tolerant of a tub rubbing against it than flexwatt. As for probe placement, I usually put it directly on the heat source, right next to the tub, and check internal tub temps with a temp gun or probed digital thermometer.
