I'm in a similar situation to you.. I want to breed just for "fun" later on. Right now, I just want to keep and enjoy some nice BPs as they grow. I'd suggest getting the nicest examples of the morphs you want. You may pay more, but starting with quality base morphs will help you produce quality later on. They'll also be nicer to look at.

I was lucky and managed to get a two gene female as my first (pastave). Just for kicks and giggles, I put in a few different 2 gene males into the morph calculator and it's amazing how many possibilities starting with 2, 2-gene animals would give me. (I'm thinking either a pastel, enchi, or fire lesser male). However, others advised me (and it's true)..A great looking single gene might be of more value than a so-so double gene.
