I use two of those knock off Mennonite ceramic heater fireplace things. One is on the floor another mounted on a shelf so it is close to the ceiling. Those two and a big fan at the other side of the room keep the temp pretty even floor to ceiling. 86 and no hotspots and somehow my snakes are doing just fine ;D
Yes i am using 3' heat tape, its a cb70 animal plastics rack. The hotspots inside the tubs are just fine, just the room stays on the cooler side so the ambient temps are in the lower 70s. If the ranco isn't necessary i have no problem just running a heater in the room. i just don't want to overheat my snakes if the heater malfunctions or any thing.. ya know

Run a Ranco trust me! Very cheap insurance when the heater does malfunction. Just make sure you get a cheap heater, not a digital one. Must have either no t-stat, or an analog rheostat.

Thanks for the input! Will the Ranco not work with one that already has a t-stat or rheostat built in?

It won't work with higher end digital ones because the ranco works by turning the heater off. It would be the same as pulling the power plug. So the digital will reset everytime

The issue with the ones with a built in tstat is when the ranco cycles off (it's an on off type thermostat, temp is reached, stat turns off, drops below a set temp, turns back on. You get the idea!!) when it cycles back on again the heater won't turn on, they have a safety feature where they won't turn back on after an outage! If they have a rheostat it's not an issue.

    Re: Heater suggestions

Sorry to kinda bump a thread but just making sure this is correct before I buy it.

Is this everything I need? I'd just have to wire it myself but the wires come with?
    https://www.etcsupply.com/ranco-etc1...ller-p-86.html

this one is all set up already so I'd just plug my heater right in nothing else correct?
    https://www.etcsupply.com/ranco-etc1...ired-p-87.html

Also Has anyone ordered from that site/ know they are legit? thanks for all the help guys!!

    Re: Heater suggestions

Either will work. I got mine without the pre wired option for $43 off of Amazon from a HVAC supply store. Which ever you prefer but ya the etc 111000 is what you want.
