    Questions regarding bp mouth

I noticed today my bp had a piece of aspen in his mouth. I thought I saw something yesterday but couldn't tell and thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. Today I saw it again and despite his squirming I looked more and sure enough it was a piece of aspen.

I ended up getting it out but oh my gosh was it difficult and I felt like the worst person ever especially when he hid his little head from me.

But my question is what is the best way to go about examining a snakes mouth. I looked up videos while doing this but they seem so harsh and I feel like I would hurt him. I rather have a plan of how to go about this next time if needed (hopefully not) because I don't want to stress him out if I don't have to.

Also the substrate wouldn't have hurt him, would it?

Yeah that's what I was thinking but then panicked when I came across something that mentioned mouth rot.

Another one of the many reasons why kraft paper is my substrate of choice. I'm sure your BP will be just fine and won't hold your veterinary care against you

Yeah I really need to switch what I use. The only reason I still am using aspen is because I bought a huge bag thinking it was a good idea. I also bought a tank and thought that was a good idea. Ha! Oh how I have so much to learn.

And I sure hope he gets over it. Tomorrow is feeding day so if he eats for me I guess I will take it as a sign that he's holding no grudges.

Im slowly getting rid of all my aspen and eco earth. Most of my snakes are in tubs im changing them all to paper towels so much easier to keep clean and its cheap

    Re: Questions regarding bp mouth

I would like to use paper towel but I have him in a tank right now so I've been mixing aspen with cypress mulch (humidity issues) and I don't know if I would be able to maintain a good humidity with paper towel.

I do plan on getting something better than a tank for him now that I know they're not tanks aren't ideal but I'm waiting for him to grow so I only have to get one and not have to buy a bigger one a couple months later.

    :/

I'm also concerned about his weight and now eating. I have no clue how old he is but he looks small to me? I got him from petsmart that was feeding fuzzies do I fed toe fuzzie in a sitting then switched to medium mice.

Recently I bought 3 mice from a different petstore and he refused all of those.

Is this normal? I'm worried because of his size.
