Exotic pet fetishes are not that rare in the U.S. While Coots collected vipers for his religious activities, other people are attracted to extreme animals in the specious thought that they are either not dangerous or that somehow they can domesticate them. This notion often results in catastrophic injuries or death.

I'm appalled, but I can't say I'm not surprised.

Well yeah. But that wasn't quite the point of the article.
The person in this article is bashing anyone with an animal that isn't whatever they define "domestic," stupidly referring to it as some sort of "fetish," which just had me shocked. Then they went on, making himself an even bigger idiot with every paragraph he wrote.

I think it's just easy for people who don't understand to assume the worst. I don't agree with the fetish; that doesn't really fit with the true definition of what a fetish is.
And I think hoarding (including animal hoarding) is a whole other ball game.

I personally don't understand the desire of owning a venomous animal, but then again I don't even have the opportunity, living in Canada where venomous snakes and pets are illegal.

The media will be the media... unfortunately.
