My opinion - if her current owner is breeding rats then he can deal with the hassle of switching her over to them.

Maybe it's just the picture but I'd expect a pastel lesser to be brighter at 700 gr - my lesser girl is more yellow and she's a good bit older.

I personally would pass. If she truly is a mouser that will be a pain. She is already a year or so behind your girl and I don't think that is a very good example of a pastel lesser.

Ok, so I have my pinstripe female available ('12, 1200g, f/t rat eater) and I just got offered a female pastel lesser for her:



Is she really a pastel lesser and how would you rate her? She is 700g ( he hasn't got back to me with her year) and says she will only take live mice. I have asked what he did to switch her...

Hey how’s it going everyone? I’m the guy that offered to do the trade for the Pinstripe female. I saw this post when we were talking and it’s somewhat the reason why I decided to back out of my offer. I felt like if smalltimeballz wasn't sure of its genetics, then maybe later on down the road they would regret doing the trade? That’s something I wouldn't like to happen. I would want for the both of us to be happy if we are to do a trade. Also, even though they have every right to ask what other people think of this possible trade. In my point of view that’s another sign that they are in doubt about it and not 100% of this whole thing. Not sure if you guys/gals get me?

It all depends what your plans are.

If you're going to breed, then no I wouldn't do it simply because your girl is nearly breeding size for being a young girl(my min on a young girl = 1500, 1200 for a girl who has laid a few clutches already). Though some people do breed at 1200, but I personally wouldn't. Then the fact that the Lesser Pastel girl is eating mice and is only 700g, to get her up bigger to breed is going to take quite awhile longer than if she was eating rats. There are many methods you can try but in the end some just don't switch.

This is all your decision, but I've found it that 95% of the time when a person is asking about doing a trade it's because they've already made up their mind and they want to justify a reason to switch. I personally wouldn't do the trade, but it's your call.

Exactly! I was honest with smalltimeballz from the start and told them that she was a mouser. While probably someone else wouldn't have done the same thing just to get rid of it. I have offered her rat pinkies/pups from the get go but she wouldn't budge. The only other option I had was a mouse and that’s what she ended up taking. She’s been hooked on that ever since…lol. I have tried switching her to rats but haven’t had any luck. I guess I’ll just continue trying.

I decided to take another picture, sometimes the first one doesn’t come out right. You can see her colors a little better compare to the first image. However, we all know that some morphs carrying the Pastel gene tend to brown out as they age. To get an idea of what I’m talking about is picture 5-7 on WOBP in the Lesser Pastel images. At the end of all this…I’m sorry smalltimeballz that I had a change of heart.

Thanks for chiming in Jorge, great to hear both sides. Personally I think she's lovely, and definitely right off the bat struck me as genetically sound. Better luck next go-around to both sellers!

Still, I personally wouldn't let a mouser stop a purchase if she was one I was interested in.
One of my "???" girls was a mouser for 3 years and right up to 1400g.
She laid 5 slugs her first season and now will eat anything I throw to her.

My point is that they can change feed at any time they want.
