doesn't really seem like a wise idea, pit bulls are terriers and putting a unknown moving object in front of my dogs would probably result in a dead or injured snake.

Not true, a waterdog can do the same thing. It depends on the dog, not the breed. Pits are strong, doesnt mean that they are going to use it against every living being, that they are vicious. They are adorable, and super nice with kids, I love pits.
