    Pied prices

Hi all! I haven't had ball pythons in a while I used to breed about five years ago. I just cannot believe how prices have changed. I have always wanted to breed pieds but they ranged from $2000+ when I was in the hobby. Now since I have a family and not a lot of time I want a "pet" again and eventually start breeding just pieds next year for my enjoyment. I just picked up a really nice low white pied with a decent amount of white for only.. $295! I am so stoked I can finally afford to have my favorite morph and have a hand at breeding again. My question was.. how much do male/female, high/low white pieds typically go for now a days? I see low white males from $300-$700.

That's a great pick up. I had not seen any males cheaper than $495. Females mid to low white are around $750, all the way up to $1000.
    Loads of balls around here

    Re: Pied prices

I see males around $400 and females $500. That is of course juvies, mature specimens are bound to cost more.
As for price by low/high white, it seems to be a preference thing so it less predictable.

Wow, guess I got very lucky! I've been searching for a decent priced pied for a few months. I just hope by the time I start breeding their prices do not drop a lot more.

One more question.. Do you think it would be a better investment to buy a female 100% het pied or a female low white to pair my male to? What makes more sense in the long run? I know two pieds make 100% pied offspring but I know there is a market for het pied as well.

in pieds, people say its random how much white they get. some other morphs influence it a lot, but apart from that it appears random. so when the choice is between a low white and a 100% het, i would choose the low white.

if you really want high white, there are ways to do just that. spider pieds are typically 80%-90% white, very often only the head and a part of the neck looks normal and the body is white. lesser pieds are typically 100% white, except for the eyes.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a het pied that wasn't also carrying atleast one other gene that I'd like in a pied. Mostly, because of the price drop making het's with additional gene more affordable and enabling quicker production of more complex goals.
But, that is just my opinion and not worth any more than anyone else's opinion in the grand scheme of things.

Great pickup and a great price! I see males for around ~$400-500 with females being more. My high white girl cost a pretty penny.

    Re: Pied prices

It really depends what you can afford and how soon you want to start breeding. You can pick up a adult female het pied ready to breed for close to the same amount a pied female hatchling. If you don't want hets and only visuals you should go for a female and raise her up but that will obviously take a couple years.

IMO, if you are a newbie to BP's and breeding, I would go with a couple of nice visual pied hatchlings and raise them up to breed in the years to come. That will give you a great foundation to study, do some networking and educate yourself on the reproduction and husbandry of snakes.
