iPhone Question: battery life
I have a simple question regarding my phone. I have the iPhone 5, just 5. Not 5s or c or xyz, just 5. Its the black 16gb model and i have verizon, idk if that matters or not.
Whats normal battery life for people's phones, iPhones or any phone?
I charge my phone overnite, its at 100% when i wake up. Before work i'll spend a half hour or so on my phone on FB/Youtube/forums, on my wifi. When i leave for work it'll usually be at like 96-98%. I get a 15min break and a 30min lunch break, so i'm usually on my phone for most of my break, sometimes not always, it varies (on 4g network, not wifi). I get out and will spend maybe 5-10min in my car on my phone before i go home (yes im slightly addicted to my phone lol :p). I get home and my phone is almost always freaking below 50%. I got home today and it was at 39%. I never had this problem with my iphone 4 and cant really rmbr having this problem before with my 5. It seems sorta recent... I may just not have noticed though. So, is this supposed to be that bad? Like 2hrs total, not even, of internet surfing uses 60%+ of my battery? That seems ridiculous to me.
Ok and before people turn this into a huge Apple vs Android vs Poundcake debate, i LIKE my iphone. I'm NOT tech savvy. I tried a galaxy s3 for 2 weeks when i was due for my last upgrade. I could not get used to it at all. I'm used to iphones all the way back from when i bought my first itouch wayyy back when. Like i said, im not tech savvy, the iphone is just more user friendly for me. Just figured i'd throw that out there before someone comments "oh just get an android phone". I tried it and really didnt care for it.
Thanks for anyone who can help me out!

These suggestions really helped me. Some of the "default" settings are real energy drains. I love my iPhone as well, and wouldn't want to switch. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have the s3 and usually charge once a day, it really depends on how much I use it. Using the internet kills my battery, probably not so much the internet but the fact that the screen is on.
Some thing that may help would be dimming the screen as much as you can or using auto dimming if that's available, I also shut off wifi where it isn't available or your phone will continue to search for a connection which drains the battery.
It kinda sounds like your battery may be going bad, I read the iPhone6 should be out in May.

There are a huge number of possible causes for battery drain on any modern smart phone. The 2 largest are how often/bright the screen is is on and how often the phones antennas are active.
What iOS version are you on? If you have upgraded to iOS 7 then you should be able to change a few settings and get much better battery life. In my experience the Facebook app is one of the biggest battery killers. It constantly is using the phones antennas to pull down data even when you don't have the app running. these background updates can be disabled in the phones settings.
Do you actually turn off Wi-Fi or are you just not connected to it? If you leave Wi-Fi on all day when you aren't connected to a Wi-Fi network your phone will use up lots of power trying to find one. The same can be said for the cell service.
I have an iPhone 5 as well (black 32GB) I run the screens backlight at 60%, and have all app background updates disabled. I turn off Wi-Fi when I leave my house and in the rare case of not having cell signal will put my phone on airplane mode. I turn on bluetooth only when I have my phone connected to my car. On average I can go 2 days without charging my phone, though I don't use my phone as much as some people do.

Ohhh, i didnt know i should turn wifi off. Its probably sitting in my jacket all day at work searching for a signal or something. I'll do that from now on when i leave for work. I have auto dim on, i'll try turning down the brightness a bit more too.

iOS 7 has more options to conserve power, and is better optimized. I really wasn't a fan of it at first either, but it's really grown on me. I still prefer the aesthetic of the previous iOS versions, but functionality wise iOS 7 is worth it. (to me at least)

Re: iPhone Question: battery life
I use my phone all day. I start with it fully charged in the morning. Internet/forum with my coffee in the morning for awhile. Text/surf frequently during the day. Occasionally listen to music during the day. By about 2:00 it's down to about 60- 70% ish (that's without music). Sometimes a bit less. Music kills mine the fastest, out of everything I use it for.
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

Re: iPhone Question: battery life
iPhone has always had crap battery management. Many Androids aren't much better, we can only hope that Blackberry will be licensing their battery management software since they likely won't be in the phone manufacturing market too much longer.
I don't use them myself but, I do believe that you can either turn off things you don't use/need to extend battery life or, download 3rd party battery management apps. Maybe someone with more experience than me just messing with the gf's iPhone has some specific app suggestions for this.
Big touch screens eat battery power. Dimming that a few points or ensuring it stays off in pocket/holster/case etc help, as can turning off GPS when you aren't using it.
Edit: Not sure if it applies to iPhone but, I have noticed severe battery drain on several phones in fringe areas. If the cell signal is weak/blocked they seem to use a ton of juice searching for a signal.
