Hi, I'm new! Got addicted to the Genetic Wizard. Have a decent starter group. Ideas?

Hey all, first post. I don't know what took so long to get into ball pythons, but the Genetic Wizard... And I know its like everyone here is on the PS4 or new XBOX and I just announced Atari. Forgive me?

I picked up the following and plan to breed in the near future. Some adults, some 2013's. What ideas would you more experienced breeders play around with?

1.0 Adult Pastel het Orange Ghost het Green Ghost (Corey Woods)
    1.0 Adult Super Mojave

0.1 Adult Lesser het Orange ghost het Green ghost (Corey Woods)
    0.1 Sugar Pastel
    0.1 Ivory
    0.1 Lesser Orange Ghost
    0.1 Pastel

I look forward to learning as much as possible and becoming an active member, and to contribute anything beneficial as time goes on and things are learned. Some of the knowledge you posters have is truly amazing! I humbly hope to get to know some of you!

Hi, I'm new! Got addicted to the Genetic Wizard. Have a decent starter group....

Welcome to the forum!! were glad to have you here! You have an awesome collection started!! But if you want to add some ever more awesome stuff, I'd invest in a fire or super fire and throw in some enchi stuff too you can't go wrong with those! I'm absolutely addicted to the genetic wizard too and can spend HOURS on the site lol. Check out what you can do with the fire and enchi genes! So awesome! Glad to have another genetic wizard addict apart of the forum haha.

there are many directions you could go.

you could add more dominants/codominants, i agree fire and enchi would be nice important, i would add pinstripe. 3 awesome genes that are expensive but coming down in price are banana, GHI, and bamboo. maybe orange dream if you like it, maybe leopard, maybe spotnose. maybe some dark stuff like black pastel or cinnamon or het red axanthic. spider and champagne are a matter of taste and personal opinion.

you could go deeper into the hypo project. i think orange ghost is one of the common lines that is compatible with most other ghosts/hypos, so, plenty of choices for visuals with extra genes and hets with high quality extra genes. and even double hets or hypo het something else.

you could get into a second recessive project, maybe one that can be combined into a nice double recessive project with hypo. maybe pied or axanthic or clown. maybe something less common.

you could use the super mojave and the lesser to go into blue-eye lucys, like mystic potions/purple passions when you add mystic or phantom. or high-white mojave lesser BELs as well as more super mojaves. i think then pinstripe would also be important, for jigsaws and kingpins, BEL genes and pinstripe work together nicely.

or you could use the ivory and go deeper into the highway / super stripe / puma gene complex. basically adding specter or spark or something, and more yellowbelly stuff.

lots of choices, plenty of freedom, its quite a flexible collection. a little bit of hypo stuff and many great codominant genes, that can be utilized in a number of ways. the super forms are really nice, you can already do uniform clutches of 100% pastaves or 100% mojave yellowbellys. the only thing you are to a degree already comitted to would be hypo, represented by 3 BPs, but all the other BPs can be utilized in numerous different ways.

the next BP you buy should be a genetically strong male, for more choices. 2.5 is quite optimal, but only if both males turn out to be good breeders.

x2 on this ^^^ how could I forget all the recessives you could get into! Lol he's reply is a lot more in depth, because there is so much you could add and dabble in it's hard to list it all but I think he did a pretty darn good job!

Oh I have been looking at the fires and enchis! Great recommendation! The combos some people post on Youtube are just gorgeous!
Looking at phantoms too. Haven't found a phantom/super phantom orange ghost yet?

I will definitely get into clowns. Those killer clowns look unreal! Looks to be a project that will require some patience and a bit of luck. I would have to get two clowns, make a super pastel (or hope for less chance with luck if pastel het clown x pastel het clown?)

What do you recommend as a genetically strong male? Like a pattern, or a different morph?

By the way, thank you both for the kind responses and advice! I'm currently looking for more info on how to do different mappings on supers and hets and getting them to combine. This is very interesting stuff.

clowns are nice, and combine well with hypo, these candied clowns are awesome.

with genetically strong i mean something with plenty of good genes. like a hypo jigsaw (mojave + pinstripe). or, when you like clowns, genetically strong would be a visual clown with extra genes. basically "genetically strong" is relative and just means 1 step above what you already have. with these females it would make sense to invest in a powerhouse male.

edit: for super pastel clown, a route that gives good odds, is not too overly expensive, and wont produce possible hets would be pastel clown male to pastel het clown female.

    In 2011 I only produced 1 clutch crossing the Orange Ghost and Green Ghost genes. The breeding was from a Pastel Orange Ghost Lesser (POGL) x Green Ghost. I produced the following;

    1.0 Pastel Lesser DH OG/GG
    2.0 Pastel DH OG/GG
    0.1 Lesser DH OG/GG
    0.2 DH OG/GG

    http://www.coreywoods.com/ball_birth...tion=80&c=2011

Scroll down to clutch 83 on page 9 of the 2011 birthing record.

I bred the DH's together in 2013 and produced babies. I've since sold off the 3 males but still have in my possession the 3 females.

So, it is possible that you have a male from this clutch. However, it is impossible that you have a female since I still have all 3 of them here in my collection.

I would contact the person you purchased your animals from since you do not have a female DH that came from me.

    Regards,
    Corey

Great list, but all very common. Get some more recessives in that mix!

Welcome to the crew! And honestly, you've got a nice starter group. A lot better than what I started with. You've got a couple of nice recessives to work with and some really solid codoms. The Super Mojave was a really smart decision. It took me almost two years to get our first super and I regret not shelling out the money sooner. As such supers=no normals, which is certainly an odds boost. My guess is he's going to be doing a lot of breeding!
