    Re: Cheap Morph

your question brings up more questions....basically, needing a little clarification. What exactly do you mean, by "good babies"? Do you mean healthy babies, pretty babies, several(quantity),valuable babies? because if its valuable babies, then unfortunately money WILL be an issue....because in order to produce valuable babies, you have to purchase valuable snakes, which requires more than a little bit of money. On the other hand, have you ever bred snakes before? If you're just trying it for the experience to see what you can produce, and to see if your successful, then I think it wouldn't really matter what morph you get. And if you're successful, you can just sell the babies locally or to a pet store. One other thing, what is your budget? "Not much money" is a VERY subjective term. Im gonna guess and say less than $100. I think for between $40-$100, you have a wide range of choices. Needing a male is on your side, cuz theyre cheaper. Cinny, fire, pastel, spider, pinstripe, mojo all come to mind. I doubt you're gonna find a double gene male for under $100...even an ugly bee. If your budget is more than $100, say, $200-$250, the doors are wide open. Even with your normal female, a nice pewter, bee, or jigsaw would produce a neat clutch of surprises for a first time breeder. Have you done all your research for breeding? make sure your female is up to size, you have an incubator, etc. You may also get lucky and find on of those CL "gems" Ive seen, which would require you to comb the CL ads. Good luck

In addition to the cost of the boy, there are other costs associated with breeding, some of which will dwarf the price of a single-gene male:
Male's enclosure/t-stat/UTH/hides/water dishes/etc. as I doubt the OP has a one normal female housed in a rack.
    Incubator + t-stat, egg tub(s), etc.
    Hatchling rack + tubs
Emergency fund in case either snake gets sick, the female becomes egg-bound, the male has a prolapsed hemipene, etc. and needs to see a vet.

I don't like it when people list an emergency vet fund. How many people actually have that?

Thats a line of credit, not a savings account with X amount of "enough" money for vet fees.

And that is all we have it for, vet bills. I pay it off as soon as we use it.

I agree. I like to keep it real, cuz im betting not a single person on here has that. I know vet bills can be an issue, but all the OP was askin was what morph male he could get cheaply. It doesnt need to involve things like those to answer his questions.

I do. After I had a cat with a mysterious illness (which cost me several thousand dollars) I have money set aside just for emergency vet bills. And I don't think it's necessary to do it that way, but I DO think potential vet bills need to be taken into account before acquiring any new animal.
