Don't own herps but spout advice

Usually its a case of their parents wont let them have a herp yet but they want one and think they have learned enough to chime in. At least that is what I have noticed in the past.

I recall one from a good while back that was always giving advice and once they got a bp they decided it wasn't for them.

Okay, i get that immersive obsession being a young fella.
I was into snowboards and never had one because single parent family/low income so i did all i could to know and understand about them....same thing with ferrets...i got the license but the animals themselves were "too expensive".

Im guilty of not owning a Corn but I delve super deep in Colubrids that if someone has a question i know i can help them with i will.
Only on this site because it incorporates them along with other animals.
I'm not on Cornsnakes.com doing it.

But what about the dudes who have the means and the will.
Or the ones i can't call out, they been around less than me but tout well over 500+ posts.

Im just curious, I gave my examples of understanding and dabbling but what is the driver....collect what you love ya?

lol Reminds me of on horse forums/sim games where young kids would get bitten by the horse bug, read up like crazy, then spout off stuff. Like how whips and spurs are bad. Not when used for their intended purpose. Whips aren't to go faster, they're to back up an ignored leg aide. Spurs aren't to go faster either, they're for more precise communication since your leg covers inches of their side. The spur lets an advanced horse know exactly what you're asking. I did all the reading I could on horses for like six years before I finally was able to get my own. Actually owning the animal, no matter how much you've read, is a big learning curve.

With BPs, I researched for only two months and having him on the first day was like "Oh my gosh I'm going to screw this up. This animal is so amazing. I want to hold it right now." Anything out of what I thought was usual scared me. I feel fairly comfortable now, but look forward to gaining years and years of experience and really knowing the in an outs of all aspects of their keeping and breeding.

None zero...like a dude who has nothing but copy and pasted info.
Which by the way is dandy if its correct but unless a situation arose that puts a nut in the cracker, why not have a herp?
I'm all about homies helping homies, dont need a billion animals to know what the deal is so long as your in tune with the ones you have now.


And these animals are a bit like herpes very contagious and stay with you.

People want to feel a part of something. You'll find armchair experts in every hobby. It's easy to read a care sheet, think "I could do that", and then talk about it like you've actually done it.

I can think of one particular individual here who has no reptile or ball Python experience, yet gives regular advice. I disagree with a lot this person says. No offense to them, but a lot of their posts are total nonsense in my opinion. If it isn't regurge, then the posts are just assumptions that lack any proof or common sense to support the claims and 'advice'. And they have offered potentially dangerous and/or illegal 'advice' in the past.

Its one thing to read and regurge common advice. Its another thing to learn about an animal through personal experience, keeping, and handling.
There is so much you cannot learn from a book or texts on a screen.
And not everyone's animals or experiences are going to be the same and follow an instruction manual that's written in stone.

More than one person but im just curious as stated already.
I don't want to start anything but illogical is what im curious about....you know this whole thread topic.
Ill be sure to explain myself again and re-ask questions that are overly asked.

I see your point, though. I can see lurking and/or asking questions if you're snakeless, but it seems a little presumptuous to pass out advice without the experience. My philosophy is that I wouldn't give someone advice on something I wouldn't do, or haven't done, myself.
