Was the boa an adult, what about the king snake?

No. They were both little things, probably 12 to 14 inches or so, the way my daughter described. Obviously the king was big enough though and the Boa, well not so much.

I did and he was a gorgeous little addition until unexpectedly dying last week. I'm still upset at his passing, he was a beautiful snake and very sweet.

Sorry for that God to hear he at least had a better home for the last part of his life

It may not be the case in all petco/petsmarts but every store i've ever gone into the employees rarely know anything about the reptiles they care for. I got a job at a petco for a few months and literally two weeks after getting the job they promoted me to a dept manager because no one else knew anything about their reptiles or arachnids. It still astounds me that they feed fuzzy mice to juvie ball pythons (not hatchlings) many of them were several months old.

My daughter works at Banfield in a Petsmart. One day they were looking for the Rosy Boa they had as no one could locate it. It had been there the day before and no one had purchased it. After asking a few of the employees, one of them said,"I just put it back with the other one". The manager said, "we don't have another one, can you show me where"? The employee pointed to the tank where sat, a very fat and happy looking ........duhn, duhn, duuuhhhhnn, "Albino Kingsnake".

Just remember, when you don't know what your doing, you could be an accomplice to "murder."

Feeding mice to ball pythons could be one of two different issues.

1. Mice are less expensive than rats
2. They don't have a clue what they're doing

My vote is for the latter.

Actually, you're right--it's not all big chain stores. The petco by me has a lady working there who breeds ball pythons, and takes it upon herself to care for all the herps. She does a great job, but there's only so much you can do when the rest of your coworkers are incompetent. If she's not there, all of the other employees are either afraid of everything in that section (one lady lifted the hide and jerked her hand back and yelped...about a tiny little hatchling ball. I told her I'd get it...before she got her dumb--ahem--bitten!) or just uneducated/don't care. She was away for a week's vacation, and when she came back, she said she had to treat everyone for mites because someone didn't quarantine a batch of new arrivals. >_<

I'd love a job there! xD My husband would probably kill me, though, because I'd want to bring home a new friend every week. xD

ball pythons are finally legal where I am so the local pet store got a bunch in. They're selling a ghost as a pastel and I let one of the managers know but he said it was for sure a pastel. I would have tried to be more convincing but I don't really want to tell someone how to do their job (or not be allowed back in )

I had to literally chew out my manager at petco because they had juvie balls on minimal feed, im sure you've seen how small the packaged fuzzies are from petco, and they were feeding two foot long red tails the same thing. I don't know what is wrong with these people. I have never worked at a place where so many people bi....*complain* about animal treatment yet mistreat the animals under their care.

Yeah, I've noticed there are some decent places that do have people who care for their reptiles out here, but most are smaller stores. I'm actually trying to get a store investigated at the moment, my girlfriend and I went in to a place called critters to check out their reptiles and found several sick animals and a dead ball python in its cage. Absolutely disgusting. I told the manager and he told me that he would "take care of it later" absolute crap if you ask me. More places need to hire people with experience in reptile care if they want to carry them. Same goes for any animal a pet store carries.

I'm starting to wonder if these big box pet stores think of reptiles as lesser creatures that they are forced to deal with. There's no other logical reason for not getting your employees the proper training in dealing with these little guys.
