With so many deaths, have you had a necropsy done on any, to confirm the cause?

Oh man that is sad. I can't believe how many weren't able to pull through. They must have been in horrid condition when you got them

I wonder if they were abandoned due to somebody knowing they might have a serious issue like I.. I won't say it, but, you should have a nec done on at least one.

Re: Got these for free today...abandoned....

I think I read that they were being kept without water. Someone importing snakes from Asia once posted about a problem they can develop in an internal organ that causes delayed death after a dehydration incident. I'm sure the lack of heat and corresponding infections where bad enough but perhaps this hydration issue finished some off that might otherwise have recovered with heat and treatment. Very sad to hear but keep up the good fight with the remainder!

There are many reason these animals died, one is the vet gave them oral antibiotics! These are totally useless which tells me this vet doesn't have a clue how to treat snakes.

Injections are the only way to treat RI's and even that is not guaranteed. Sadly I knew these snakes weren't going to make it as soon as I read oral antibiotics.

Without the proper cultures and the correctly prescribed antibiotics learned from the cultures, these animals didn't stand a chance. This I know from experience, not just from reading a thread on the internet.

My heart goes out to you as I had a vet kill a very expensive and not very sick animal once, never again! Some Vets are really clueless when it comes to reptiles

Were there any further updates on this? Any necropsies or bloodwork or histology done? With all these new cases of paramyxovirus cropping up, it makes me wonder if that wasn't the case here.
Animals are my passion and my life.

Never, ever underestimate the vital importance of strict and proper quarantine. There is no such thing as being too careful. One mistake can cost a world of damage, and regret that lasts a lifetime.

    Got these for free today...abandoned....

Just read this entire thread now. Wow. I would love to hear how the remaining snakes fared. I hope they are all healthy and happy! Kudos to you for taking this on.

The pictures do no justice I completely agree with you. Those snakes would have been sold.

Woman B has no idea how to take care of snakes and out of 40 original snakes only 12 survive 2 mos. At woman B's house. Woman B can't figure out why the snakes are dying (no water or heat) and decides to give away all remaining snakes after woman A says she is unable to take them back...the vet said it took atleast two months for the snakes to decline to the state they are in, so it matches up with this lady's story.
Either way this story is a sad one for the animals involved and I couldn't leave them to suffer after seeing how this woman cared for them.

Just sounds like a case of neglect originally and then the reaming sick ones not getting treated properly...
