Re: Might Have To Travel With Snakes
No to hand warmers.
You don't have to drive with the heater on if your snake alone is insulated. Place the snake in a small transportation tub or snake bag/pillow case. Place that into an insulated cooler if you are worried about environmental temps. You can add a hot water bottle in a sock too if you don't want to buy a shipping pack. I've had 16oz water bottles keep a steady 80-85 degrees for 4-5 hours in a insulated foam box when I transported snakes.
And even if you drive at 70-75 degrees, your snake will be fine if it sat uninsulated. How do you think reptiles do at shows in room temp without heat.

When I travel with mine they go in a cooler with hot water bottles and towels. Small snakes are in deli cups, larger snakes are in pillow cases.

Re: Might Have To Travel With Snakes
I honestly cannot believe this has gone on for three pages...we are talking about 2.5 hours...that's a mere 150 minutes, that's about how long you spend in the movie theater if you get there right as the movie before yours is over and you stay for the credits of your movie. OP, heat the car to a point were you are comfortable in a short sleeve shirt. Place your specimens in a tub with some shredded newspaper for a little padding in case you hit a bump or two, and then you just go.
Hand warmers: these are designed for humans and thus reach extremely high temperatures and utilize enough oxygen to transfer heat almost unhindered even when enclosed. This is of very little concern for humans because we are endotherms and because heat transfers from a warmer body to a colder body in a measurable ratio, a hand warmer getting into the low 100s does not bother your 98F body as the warmer itself will distribute most of it's heat to the surrounding area which is colder than YOU. Whereas a snake's temperature is right around the ambient, therefore, almost all the outputted heated will be transferred directly to the animal which causes thermal shock and/or burns.

op wrap a bunch up in t shirts secure them good,it's a short travel,u only are using them to let off heat to keep your snakes warm....and to the ppl who swear there so bad,I'll use more common sense, what you can do Is tape them about 3 inches above from where your snakes will lay and tape them around the perimeter. Also keep the heat up in your car..Pythonluvr,I'm sure that's not good either, clown.
Pythonluvr, oh wait I have another genius idea,OP,what u also can do is keep them in a container on the floor in the front of course and turn your heat on so it's blowing out from the feet part, that will keep them very warm as well..
need an other ideas,I'm here to help ..
It's literally impossible for you to make a post without sounding like a jerk, isn't it? You're obnoxious and rude in a lot of threads and have no idea what you're talking about in most cases. Like right here^. Do us a favor and skip the hot hands in your pockets for a few days, your numb fingers and inability to type will give everyone a much needed break.
PS- change your avatar pic while you're at it cuz the rangers suck. Go B's!!!!

Re: Might Have To Travel With Snakes
I transport Tali in the cabin of my car (I keep it comfortable for me, so 75-80 degrees) when I transport her, and we keep on the floor near the heater and she's always been fine, not to cold and not to hot. If I have to run errands, I bring her in with me (usually in my purse) so she doesn't get cold or hot in the car.
I also put her in a little critter keeper like container- I had her in a pillow case, but my dog (while bouncing around) landed on it. The keeper has hard plastic sides so its sturdy and more like a hide- I feel like its a bit more secure for her. I need to get a bigger one because she's quickly out growing it.

(Her travel container which, again, is getting to small)
Tl:dr- your guys in plastic tubs that are belted in should be fine without added heat packs... just don't leave them alone in the car because it could quickly get very cold. If you need to stop in somewhere, I'd put them in pillow cases (and then put the pillow cases in the tubs while traveling) and take them in with you in a messanger bag.
