This could only happen to a snake keeper

Just tried to feed the new ball pythons. The (still unnamed) pastel was like aww yeah, food! Zorro, the pewter, refused his thawed mouse. Thinking maybe he was use to rats, I attempted to scent the mouse with our pet rat.

Now, this rat does not like me. She takes every advantage she gets to reach through the bars of her cage and grab my clothes, hair, flesh, whatever. Attempts to hold her result in me getting bit every.damn.time. My daughter can dress her up, tote her around, whatever, with no problem. Me? Rat Enemy #1.

So, knowing I couldn't hold her to scent the mouse, I attempted to distract her with a treat so that I could quickly rub the mouse on her back.

She saw right through my plan.

That is how I ended up playing tug-o-war with a rat over a thawed mouse. It was both morbid and hilarious.

I won, but the snake still didn't eat.

ROFLMBO that os too funny. Rats are so silly. This sounds like what my pet rat Powder would have done. Her sister Squiggles would have gotten under my hair and lounged on my neck. They have personality let me tell you.

Rats make awesome pets. They're like little puppy dogs if you put the time in with them.

Ratties are awesome and fun and cute. We have feeders and pets. I swear 2 of them know their names when I talk to them.

We use rats to experiment on for a reason. Very, very, very smart animals.

Re: This could only happen to a snake keeper

I've had pet rats off and on for 20 years. This is the first one that just flat out doesn't like me. I give her treats, talk to her, try to pet her, but just haven't won her over.

    That is rather funny. lol.

Next time, just grab some of the rat bedding and rub the mouse on that. Live animals aren't needed for scenting. hahaha
    Or try a live mouse.
