    Finally, getting a new GTP!

I have been wanting to get a GTP again for a couple of years now, and finally pulled the trigger. Picking up this unsexed yearling from Joe Montini. A lot of blue in the blood line.

Dam is OS High Yellow X New Blue
Sire is Mr Blue X Carolina

    Dam:

    Sire:

    Neo:

Pretty excited to watch this little one grow up!

With all the other species you have, this would be a piece of cake. Mine has turned out a lot easier than I had anticipated.

    Jinx, grats on the GTP!

Out of my comfort zone handling wise definitely lol
I would love one to have an just a display snake in an arboreal cage. I could do that, but I've heard these guys deliver a NASTY bite.

I have yet to receive a bite, thankfully. Epic seems to be a gentleman, once out. So long as you read him. Don't go into his enclosure after hours. Don't try to take him out day before or of feeding. And I give him a little spritz before I put my hands in his enclosure, if its for anything other than feeding. He seems to understand this, that no food is incoming. Because he is always looking, lol. He has only come off his perch twice for me on his own (although I haven't given him a lot of opportunities, since he is so young I haven't had him out much). Since he is still a baby, I take him out on his perch so he is used to me and being out occasionally. He is really awesome though, and I'm super happy with him.

    You can see Epic here-

Congrats! Joe is a good friend and has nice animals!

Trackstrong yes chondros can have a nasty bite but rarely does anyone get bitten. Babies should never be handled prior to 12 months (due to their very fragile spines) so anytime you need to clean you simply just remove the perch with them still on it. We NEVER take babies off their perches. Same goes for adults. If you don't feel comfortable handling them you really don't ever need to...simply remove the perch with them on it although enclosures can be cleaned with the snake in them (the perk of arboreals!)

Almost all of our adults can be handled during the day with no problems but we always take the perch out of the enclosure before attempting to remove them from it. Don't let the stereotype of them being aggressive prevent you from possibly getting one someday they are not only beautiful but very rewarding to have.

Nice! Congratulations! GTPs make wonderful display snakes, and I sure haven't had any regrets about getting the pair that I own. I can handle them both and have never been bit. I don't ever try to handle them after dark, though.

I look forward to getting one one day absolutely.

I've gotten some nasty bites before so I'm not too worried, and if I choose not to handle them, I still have my big ole dumerils girl I can get out and handle who is the biggest sweetheart in the world lol

I've looked at different localities, which get biggest, etc, still have a lot of homework to do but I love learning more about snakes

Re: Finally, getting a new GTP!

Congrats. That is a beautiful animal. Should be quite fun watching that one grow. As well, on the handling topic, I envy you guys. Ours is the meanest little thing known to man, always looking to take a bite out of someone. Just getting to the perch to remove it with him on it to really clean is a chore. Wouldn't trade him for anything though.
