How many 18 month old girls up to 1400g-1500g range have you had go for you... percentage wise?

None so far. In 2012, I paired up 9 2010 girls that were 1400g or bigger and none went. This past year, I didn't pair up any 2011 girls. Next season I'm going to try again with some of my 2012 girls that are huge. I've talked to a well known breeder who produces 100+ clutches a year and if I recall correctly, he gets about 20% of his young females that are up to size to go.

I took a second more thorough look at those graphs, and it just raises so many questions! What about those folks that DO NOT cool down their animals? What of follicular development then? And how is it that some breed all year round? Follicular development then? Id be curious if this project was done again, but with temps recorded as well.....to see exactly how temps coincide with follicular development, and locks. And maybe add thunder/snowstorms in there as well

I don't have a large sample size from last year... only 0.2 that fit that criteria. One went and one didn't. Follicle growth did not get much past 15mm on the girl that did not go (about marble sized). I have heard numbers in the 50% range from a few breeders.

I took a calculated risk in my 2012 season. I did research on getting young females (2 years old and younger) to breed. After seeing numbers like 50%, I decided to invest heavily in some nice males. My actual percentage for 2012 on young females was 0%, so that risk definitely didn't pay off. The way I look at it is you should not count on any female under 3 years old to produce for you. If they do, it should be considered a bonus. Don't allow your season to depend on them. This advice is based off my personal experience. Your mileage may vary.

My 3 yr old pastel girl was paired for the 1st time in '12. There were no witnessed locks, she had a huge build and then....never ovulated. This year she is finally Gravid and about 1 week away from laying. I purchased her when she was 2 months old and about 120g. That's a long wait to finally see some of her offspring. I'm glad in the end that she didn't go last year because this year she is almost 3000g. I guess she just needed another year and some more weight on her.
