Re: Possibly sick hoggy, any advice appreciated.
So update on Granola.
He improved a little late last week and felt like he got worse over the weekend. So far this week he feels stronger and a little thicker than last week and when I pulled him out last night for his pedialyte treatment, he started moving around on his own a little and didn't just lay there. He did put on 14grams last week which is definitely a good sign even if it is in fluids. The "dying" action he was doing I can now fully describe as "corkscrewing", has decreased a little; I'm hoping it goes away fully as he gets more hydrated and it isn't a permanent feature for his sake. . I also got a lot more tongue flicking out of him last night so he's starting to act more snakey.
His treatments have gone like this:
every other day he gets 1-2 shots of pedialyte orally through a small syringe.
every 3rd day he gets 1 shot of pedialyte and a needle with a medicine I can't pronounce called cefazolin sodium.
after every treatment I put his mouth down in his water bowl and he drinks like there is no tomorrow.
tonight is the 3rd day in the cycle, he'll be getting assist fed a f/t mouse hopper along with his meds and pedialyte
The blood work showed his white cell count was elevated and low iron in his blood so he is definitely fighting infection.
At this point he seems on his way to making a full recovery as the vet said there was a possibility he wouldn't make it and he would be touch-and-go for a little while. He is still very weak and only moves around under his hide but he is moving around more everyday.
I'm really happy with this vet, once Granola makes a full recovery he'll be 2 for 2 with getting sick snakes back to full health with me.

Re: Possibly sick hoggy, any advice appreciated.
Update on Granola:
The last 3 weeks he's eaten a tuna scented f/t mouse on his own and he is staying steady in the 800-825 gram range. But he is active, moves around on his own, and tongue flicks like a snake should.
At this point I think he may have possible neurological damage as he moves backwards across the tank and he will corkscrew across his tank as well.
I read these snakes will slow down on eating when it is cold out(hibernation/brumation) so I'm wondering if this is why he isn't eating more than 1 mouse/week. He seems more hydrated(albeit still skinny when I first took him to the vet) but he has some good fight and strength in him now.
