a few of my bp's heads have gotten swollen like this and after being incorrectly diagnosed as rat bites and mouth rot, i figured out that 28qt and bigger Sterilite tubs with locking lids are the problem. the lids are too flexible and provide just enough room for the snake to do some serious damage trying to "test" for a weak spot and escape. glad your snake is better!

That sounds a lot like what I think happened with her. She was in the first rack that hubby made and it's 28qt tubs. He made it so we didn't have to use the lids, however, there's gaps like 1/4" from the melamine to the tub in certain levels, hers being one of them. Every time I noticed her pushing, it was in the same exact corner every time. She didn't do it daily, but towards the end of the week when feeding day was approaching. She's the only one who I've noticed who went absolutely hard core on the pushing. The AP rack she's in now is 32qt, slightly taller tubs, and no gaps for her to push on. She's been enjoying her cardboard box I cut up to use as a temporary hide for her, so I figured, I'll just leave it in there with her till she's destroys it.

that so weird but yeah from the sound of it she may of fractured the nose area and this allowed some air to leak into the skin around the back of head. With the removal of the blockage you took out has allowed the skin t o close up and heal resulting in less build up. You can just never know lol Snakes are like kids they can do the weirdest things when you least expect it.

Could it have been an allergic reaction? I noticed from what you said the swelling also went down after you moved her. Very interesting case, I am glad she is doing better.

Am thinking of hydrocephalus due to head trauma? Or just growth? Abcess? Antonio

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a allergic reaction. She's been in that rack since the day we got her, back in Nov 2011.

And it can't be a growth, or abscess since the swelling was pretty much just an air pocket.
