    Desert Pastel?

I've been watching this craigslist ad for a desert pastel male for awhile now, and I must admit that I'm pretty interested. I know, I know, "craigslist" is a big red flag as it is (is it even worth it to be considering the snake?)... Either way, compared to a lot of the other desert pastels I've seen pictures of, this one just looks pretty different. It's difficult to find good examples of what a desert pastel should look like, so I'm uncertain. And it's kind of hard to see in the picture, but what's up with his eyes? I've never seen such light green eyes on a ball python before! Those can't be stuck eye caps, can they?

What do you guys see? Is he something you'd want in your collection, if not for breeding (due to the wonky desert gene, I guess), then just for how pretty he is?

He looks like a pastel desert to me!
And green eyes are one of the features of the pastel gene. The pictures are too small to tell if there are caps, but they look alright to me.

If you like him, then go ahead and get him. Male deserts can be bred, just not females.
Personally, I would get him as a pretty display pet. I wouldn't use him as a breeder though because I'm personally not interested in working with the desert gene.

Good to know, thank you! And I just didn't know that a pastel's eyes could get that light. His almost seem unnaturally so, but if it's possible, then I suppose it's possible.

I don't really know much about the desert gene, and I am kind of picky at times when buying, but he looks fantastic. I really like his colors and eyes. As long as he's not overpriced for you, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning more and more toward him, although I would've loved something female... But he's just too good to pass up, I think. Even if I never do use him for breeding, that's not the point of ball pythons, now, is it? I'd like to think of them as more than just "breeders", and I'm sure we all feel the same on that. We love our noodles. And I fell in love with this guy the first time I saw him.

That person is a user here, though I forget the name. I recognize the hand. Yes, that is a pastel desert.

If its love at first sight, then I say go for it!

I don't like colubrids and have never been interested in them, but one species caught my eye at a reptile show. Ever since, I knew I had to have one and regret not buying it then because they're not very common. It was one of the most gorgeous animals I've ever seen.
It was only today that I found and bought one. She's my first non BP and strictly a pet.

So, if you like this guy, then why not buy him? You don't see desert combos that much these days. And he's beautiful.

I'd have to save up the money, first, and I'm a little worried about keeping the owner waiting. Although, I've seen this ad recycled several times on craigslist over the past month or two, and it seems like he'll still be there a little longer if I do wait. I might just go and ask for a small loan from a family member. What we should keep in mind, though, is that I'm seventeen (albeit, three months short of eighteen) and I don't have a job. My folks agreed to allow me leeway in purchasing a new snake, as long as I find a job and supply the cash myself. So, the amount of time in which I'll have the money is an unknown variable. I've certainly started searching for jobs, but when I do get one clearly isn't entirely up to me.

And congrats on the colubrid! I'm glad you found one you love.

Thank you for the reinforcing confirmation!

Eek, that's sort of what I feared. I wasn't certain if they were a user here or not. I'd be sort of embarrassed if they were to see this, ahaha.

Maybe ask the poster if you can put a deposit down and do payment plans? That way it will give you some time to gather up enough money. Or even send him an offer. Maybe they'll take it?

That is a beautiful snake for sure. If for a good price I'd get.
